I Am Not a Blogger. I Repeat. I Am Not a Blogger!

When I first started blogging, I didn’t like to refer to myself as a blogger. At the time I made most of my money online through discussion forums and gambling related websites so the title ‘Blogger’ didn’t sit right with me. It felt a little pretentious. After years of blogging day in day out, I became much more comfortable with the title and have found that it’s quicker to tell people I’m a blogger than spending 30 minutes explaining what internet marketing is.

It’s 6 years since I launched BloggingTips. I had been using blogging platforms for a year or so before that and content management systems since around 2001. However, starting that blog was the reason I delved more into the world of blogging.

Today I’m happy with calling myself that and when others refer to me in articles, interviews etc; they usually say Blogger Kevin Muldoon. I love blogging.

I enjoy writing and I love connecting with people. The thing is, I need to change my habits. I’m currently working on my upcoming book ‘The Art of Freelance Blogging‘. It’s a long book that will probably be around 300 pages in length. My aim is to release at least two quality books every month. I had hope that I could produce two or three 70-100 page books a month and still maintain my blogging schedule on this blog. Now I’m not so sure. It’s tough.

I’ve been tracking how much I write recently and on a good day I can churn out about 5,000 words. Now, where should I spend those 5,000 words? Should I write two really long blog posts for this blog or write another few chapters for a book I’m writing? Working on the book makes more sense. Both financially and as a way to promote this blog more.

Someone who I have a huge amount of admiration for is Steve Scott. As an inspiring author, his work rate is inspiring. He releases great internet marketing books every month. I strongly recommend subscribing to his blog to get updates of his new books.

I mentioned to him recently about blogging and releasing multiple books. He noted:

“It’s definitely doable to write multiple books in a month. But it’s almost impossible to do while running a blog.”

I don’t want to give up updating this blog. I love blogging and I love connecting with people through this blog. I’m also excited about the prospect of doing podcasting and videos too. I want to release many books this year but I see no reason why I can’t write books, blog, podcast and do more video blogging.

The key thing for me will be to get the right balance. I need to stop thinking like a blogger. Up until this weekend I had posted on this blog every day since it relaunched. This is a fairly easy schedule to maintain if you don’t have other commitments but is difficult if are working on different things.

My Sexy Author Hat

So, for the next two weeks at least, I need to take off my blogger hat and stick on my sexy author hat. My next book will be much shorter so I should be able to juggle everything a little easier. Time will tell :)
