I was perhaps a little late to the YouTube game. In hindsight, I should have started recording videos and uploading videos to YouTube several years before I did.
My first videos were admittedly poor. Audio was terrible and footage was not much better. Still, I had an enthusiasm for it and enjoyed the whole process.
YouTube was a natural progression for me as I had been publishing articles online since 2000. The process of doing research and creating content is similar in many respects, however you run into different technical issues than you do with a website.
Mistakes Will Happen
When you record videos, mistakes can and will happen.
Sometimes you lose your train of thought, sometimes you say something and then instantly regret it because you know what you said was wrong, other times you get receive interference from people phoning you or knocking on your door.
Then there are hardware problems.
Cameras run out of batteries at the most inconvenient times, files get corrupted, and frequently the audio recording is so bad it simply cannot be used.
One of the best pieces of advice I can give to YouTubers, and anyone else recording videos, is that more often than not, it is usually quicker to simply rerecord the video rather than spend hours looking for a way to salvage the clips you recorded.
I talk about this in the video below.
Experience Will Make You Better, But Problems Will Still Occur
You will make a lot of mistakes when you first start recording videos to upload online, though over time you will learn and become more experienced at producing videos.
Regardless of what level you are at in your YouTube journey, problems will still arise from time to time. It is just the nature of recording video and audio. You can do everything right and the your recordings can still get messed up due to software problems, hardware problems, and other technical issues that are outwith your control.
The real test is how you deal with it. When you have spent a lot of time producing videos for YouTube, you know when it makes more sense to quit and start again.
Good luck.
