At the start of the year I set out my goals for YouTube in 2017. I touched upon this again in May 2017 when I passed the 1,000 subscriber mark on my technology YouTube channel.
I haven’t passed any milestones on my YouTube channels recently, but I thought it was as good a time as any to give you all an update on how my YouTube channels are doing.
A Video Update on My YouTube Jorney
Check out the video below for my thoughts on where I am with my YouTube channel.
Moving Forward with YouTube
Both of my YouTube channels are growing. They are not growing at the rate I would have liked, but I have had to make sacrifices at times in order to put more energy into this blog.
My initial plan for my Rise Forums channel was to do videos for most of my blog posts. The idea being that my article will be shorter and merely describe the content that is contained within the video.
I diverged from this plan.
Instead, what I did was write full 1,000-3,000 word articles and include a video that covered the same subject. I like the idea of doing this, but it does take a lot more time.
I have also realised that many blog posts just don’t need a video to coincide with it. This is particularly true of shorter articles that are quick to explain the narrative.
In the future, I would like to set up articles like this, where I do a short introduction and explanation together with a more detailed overview through a video.
With some articles, such as reviews, it simply isn’t possible to do that. It really does depend on the article.
My tech channel remains a labour of love. I have a small but growing subscriber base. I love producing videos on technology, gaming, filming, and more. I’m quite lucky as those who do subscribe are loyal and comment frequently.
Moving forward, it is a case of more of the same. I would like to buy better cameras and other equipment in the future in order to make my videos more professional, but content remains the main focus.
Final Thoughts
This has not been a great year for YouTube content creators in general. We have seen ad revenue decrease considerably and this has pushed many YouTubers to other platforms.
I do still hope that I can make a better living from YouTube at a later date, but in the mean time I am happy just growing my subscribers and reaching a larger audience.
I will be sure to give you all another update in the future to explain how I am progressing.
Thanks for reading (and watching!).
